Wic-Can Fest 2001 Trip Report

This festival is a smaller, about 300 or 400 people, family oriented festival. It's held in a lovely UU Church camp in Redicville, Ontario, Canada. There is a meal plan with a great fest on Saturday evening!

I presented three workshops there, "Dragons and Faeries and Giants, Oh My," "The Way of the Trees," and "What is ADF." There were many other good presenters and many interesting workshops on subjects ranging from plant lore and herbalist to Egyptian magic and divination.

One of the other feature speakers was Diana Paxson. She was presenting a seven-session lesson teaching people how to do Oracular Seidh, a Norse divination ritual. I took the training, along with Linda Demissy the preceptor of our Seer's Guild, and was very impressed by it.

My personal highlight of the festival came on Friday night. I had a chance to participate in a Fire Walk ritual. It is definitely a transforming experience to walk across a bed of red-hot coals 15' to 18' across! About 20 people built a large fire, worked through two pathworkings to contact their inner guide, and then, about 3 hours later after the fire had burned down to coals, walked across them.

Clicking on any of the pictures below will bring up a large (640 X 480) version of the picture.

This is what was left of the ashes from the firewalk the next morning with a full size shovel for scale!

The brown area was completly covered in red-hot coals and was the area we walked across.
